10 Charged in Medicare, Medicaid Kickback Conspiracy Scheme
Ten people were charged in an alleged kickback scheme to exploit Medicare and Medicaid on Friday. The 13-count indictment alleges that the executives of Contiuum Healthcare LLC and eight others fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid $173 million for mental health services and directed $69.4 million in kickbacks to personal home care owners and patient advocates to generate more clients.
Named in the indictment are Contiuum Healthcare executives Jeffery Parsons and David Edson, personal care home owners Aretha Johnson and Deborah Davis, Houston patient advocates Earnestine Johnson and Ronald Turner, along with Houstonians Inger Michelle Pace, James Bobino, Mary Browning, and Cheryl Waller.
Contiuum had been in investigation before. In April of 2012, federal agents seized hundreds of patient records.
